Day 3680: I'm Looking at Day 14611

Daddy's Birthday:

Daddy Richard is trying to convince me that he is NOT REALLY OLD, but I'm sure he is WELL over the hill!

Honestly! He is SO doddery that he has tripped over and fallen on the SELF DESTRUCT BUTTON for the SECRET VOLCANO BASE! What a NUMPTY!

(And yes, that really IS the one from James Bond!)

Still, there is HOPE! We have been listening to Ms Betty Driver on the Desert Island of Discs and SHE has been pulling pints on Consternation Street since longer than Daddy has been ALIVE!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Day 1951: Booms and BAFTAs

Sunday

Tonight on the telly we watched KRAKATOA on the BBC.

This was the story of the famous EXPLOSION of the island volcano and how some lucky people SURVIVED to write about it.

It was a VERY SAD story though as lots and lots more people didn't survive but were KILLED, either by being DROWNED by the tidal waves or by being SOUTHERN FRIED by great galloping clouds of super-hot ash and pumice. Ew!

The story was based on the actual account written by a Dutch scientist, Rogier Verbeek, whose book about it is the basis of what we know about volcanoes nowadays. Because it is his personal account, it seemed to me that it concentrated a BIT MUCH on the Dutch people and did not mention very many of the INDONESIAN people, of whom rather more got exploded!

Also, there were no signs of Dr Who who is supposed to be there at least twice: Christopher Eccythump poses for a local to sketch him and one of the early ones (Mr Billy or Mr Pat) was there as Mr Jon Twerpee remembers the sound it makes when he is at the "Inferno".

Mind you, on Sunday they said it was loud enough to be heard in AUSTRALIA so maybe Mr Billy was catching some surf!

Perhaps Dr Who was not there because he was at the BAFTAs instead. These are an award ceremony where they give prizes for the best shows on television, a bit like the Oscars but with a nice gold face on a stick instead of a silly little man.

They gave prizes to lots of people, including friendly fluffy person Mr Sir Alan Sugar for putting up with POWER CRAZED ALIEN LIZARDS – more about them after Wednesday! – and Miss Anna Maxwell Martin for being FABULOUS as the lady hero in BLEAK HOUSE even if my Daddies thought that Miss Gillian Anderson was EVEN MORE FABULOUS!

But the BIGGEST winner was DOCTOR WHO with THREE prizes: it was given BEST DRAMA and the public also voted it BEST PROGRAMME and then Dr Who HIMSELF gave a very special DENNIS POTTER prize for LOVELY WRITING to Mr Russell T Davies for all of the wonderful things he has written and we saw him give his boyfriend, Mrs T Davies, a BIG KISS.

Hooray!

Day 1893: Mr Frown

Thursday:

This is BAD news: Mr BALLOON has BIRD FLU! It is NO FUN to have a nasty case of the SNIFFS!

Since Mr Balloon is unwell, today I will tell you about the LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION instead.

Here is an INTERESTING FACT: although TEN DOWNING STREET is the home of the Prime Minister, Mr Blair does not live there! In fact a man called MR GORDON FROWN lives at Number Ten Downing Street…

(…and Mr Blair lives in a HOLLOWED OUT VOLCANO!)

However, Mr Frown would like to be living in Ten Downing Street FOR REAL as the REAL Prime Minister.

Mr Frown is like a BANK MANAGER – he likes to keep all of your money and then sends you bills for things you did NOT want in the first place. Usually rubbish things like a LETTER telling you you have gone OVERDRAWN or a SMALL WAR in the MIDDLE EAST. That sort of thing.

When he first started out, Mr Frown was very good. Mostly this is because he did other people's policies instead of his own. He did the LIBERAL DEMOCRAT policy of independenting the BANK OF ENGLAND and he did the Conservatory policy of not paying any doctors or teachers or lollipop ladies any more money AT ALL for AGES.

This was called ripping off other peoples ideas being PRUDENT.

However, after a bit I THINK Mr Frown got a bit bored. I know I would have. So he decided to uses everybody's money to buy some nice new things. An IPOD. A BLACKBERRY. An entire new NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE. And so on.

Unfortunately even with everybody's money he didn't have enough, but fortunately some very nice people called LOAN SHARKS DIRECT and SELL US YOUR SOUL dot COM agreed to let him buy lots of schools and hospitals on the NEVER-NEVER. This means that all of you people will have to keep paying for them until they fall down. And probably for a bit after that!

This is called buying popularity likes it's going out of fashion being PRUDENT.

Recently he has been trying to change his image.

For a long time he has been seen as the HERO of OLD LABOUR; Mr Frown does NOT want to be the HERO OF OLD LABOUR – he wants to be PRIME MINISTER thank you very much, so he is trying VERY, VERY hard to be like Mr Blair.

This involves leaving his bank and going around the country meeting people saying:

"Hullo. Nice to meet you. What are your thought on the stability growth pact? Do you want to make poverty history? Oh, sorry that was last year! No! Stop! Please come back! I'll give you your wallet back!"

Apparently he has also had his teeth fixed, but I cannot tell because you people are STRANGE and keep all of your teeth inside your mouths where they cannot be much use AT ALL!

Personally, I suggest that he finds himself a nice WHITE CAT and a SECRET BASE IN THE ALPS.
